Grand Seiko Hi-Beat Green Birch SLGH011
The luscious green dial of a Grand Seiko Birch watch
Last year’s Hi-Beat “White Birch” SLGH005 was a smash hit for Grand Seiko and undoubtedly one of the hottest watches of the year. Even though it doesn’t look like white in the literal sense, it’s a very attractive watch. For 2022, Grand Seiko continues the central theme of SLGH005. About a month ago, it released the White Birch Spring Drive SLGA009, and now it has a luxurious green iteration of the Grand Seiko Hi-Beat Green Birch SLGH011.
We have seen the difference between SLGH005 and SLGA009 in detail before, so I won’t go into details here. This new version has changed slightly compared to the SLGH005, which is the closest to the SLGH005 due to its all-mechanical movement (more on that later). We hope to be able to follow up with a hands-on story shortly, so we’ll stick to the basics for now.
The case is the same as in the SLGH005, so it is 40mm in diameter, 11.7mm high and 47mm between the lugs. It has a mix of brushed and Zaratsu polished surfaces and features a bezel with Zaratsu polished bevels and a vertical brushed top. The lugs are faceted at both outward and inward angles, and sapphire crystal covers the dial and movement.
The biggest change is on the dial, which is now adorned in a luscious dark green. In terms of texture, it’s still inspired by the birch forests surrounding the Shizukuishi studio where it was made, but it’s summer now. The hands and markers have also changed, with the top surface brushed rather than polished. The blue central seconds hand has been replaced by a polished steel seconds hand. A framed window at 3 o’clock displays the date.
The Green Birch SLGH011 uses Grand Seiko’s Hi-Beat caliber 9SA5, similar to the SLGH005. It runs at a high speed of 36,000vph and is equipped with a direct impulse escapement with a free spring balance. It is specified to operate within a tolerance of +5/-3 seconds per day and offers 80 hours of autonomy. watches selection replica
