Bovet Concert 26 Chapter 2 The Golden Dragon – Draw the dragon, dot the eyes
The Chinese idiom “putting the finishing touch” refers to striving for perfection. With the Recital 26 Chapter Two Golden Dragon, Bovet’s craftsmen have gone to great lengths to realize this artistic sculpture in a masterpiece of haute horlogerie.
golden dragon
The golden or yellow dragon is central to Chinese mythology and symbolizes power, nobility, honor, luck and success in traditional Chinese culture. Some also believe the dragon can control time – perfect for a watch that can tell the time in 24 time zones around the world. Since it is the most revered dragon, the ancients often used it as a symbol of the Chinese nation and emperor. People also associate dragons with attributes such as warmth, wisdom, and wealth.
The dragon is the fifth animal in the Chinese zodiac and is considered the most important cultural symbol in China. Chinese dragons are seen as possessing magical powers and being far more benevolent than the fire-breathing monsters of Western culture. The dragon is intelligent and powerful, symbolizing courage, confidence and adventurous spirit, but is also seen as representing success and ambition. Therefore, people born in the Year of the Dragon are believed to possess many of these characteristics. Celebrities born under this sign include John Lennon, founding member of The Beatles, Bruce Lee, Martin Luther King Jr., Pele, Chuck Norris, Andy Warhol, Deng Xiaoping, Keanu Ree Weiss and Maya Angelou, among others. For Bovet, integrating the solid 18K gold dragon into the award-winning Recital 26 Chapter Two was a challenge – while the desk box provided ample space, the dragon’s placement was limited to the available space between the complications – hours and time. Minute dome dial, world time hemispheric dial with indexable city indicator, mother-of-pearl moon phase and of course the patented tourbillon.
First, Bovet’s technical office demarcated the space that the dragon could occupy, then commissioned a sculptor to create the head and body of the dragon in solid gold. Once the sculpture is cast, it’s handed over to Bovet’s in-house hand carvers to add details—eyes, scales, claws, whiskers, etc.—which takes 40 to 50 hours. Fiery red rubies are then set into the eyes and the complete sculpture is assembled in and around the movement.
The result is a horological work of art featuring genuine hand-carved sculptures.
“For me, the dragon is the most magical symbol, representing wisdom, strength, kindness, hope and a bright future.” said Mr. Pascal Raffy, the owner of replica Bovet 1822. “The writing desk case of the Recital 26 Chapter 2 is the perfect showcase for a hand-carved gold dragon sculpture and our fine watchmaking expertise. With this timepiece, we celebrate 2024, the Year of the Dragon.”
There is a dragon
Dragons are such a legend in many civilizations that it’s hard to believe they never really existed. The word “dragon” comes from the Greek drákōn, meaning “serpent” or “water snake” – in fact, the earliest mythical dragons were more like snakes than the monsters from Game of Thrones.
The spiritual significance of dragons can be traced back to the Neolithic Age more than 5,000 years ago. During the reign of Qin Shihuang (2717 BC to 2599 BC), China became more unified. Known as the Yellow Emperor, he unified China’s many primitive tribes and combined their symbolic elements into a new totem – the dragon. This marked the beginning of the unification of Chinese civilization, which is why the Chinese people call themselves “descendants of the dragon.”
The Year of the Dragon starts on February 10, 2024 and ends on January 28, 2025. People born in the Year of the Dragon are believed to be destined for good luck and greatness.
Chinese horoscopes predict that the Year of the Dragon 2024 will bring good luck, wealth and power, with strong leadership skills and an attractive personality, making it a good time for new beginnings and long-term success. Additionally, all 12 zodiac signs will experience opportunities and challenges, as the Dragon brings the wood element of change and adaptability, as well as growth and renewal, as well as the need for forgiveness and peaceful resolution.

It is also equipped with Bovet’s patented double-sided flying tourbillon and an indexable second time zone. The movement developed for Brainstorm Chapter 2 is entirely manufactured in the BOVET 1822 workshops. Bovet’s energy control is ideal for multi-time-zone timepieces, guaranteeing a power reserve of five days with just one barrel and a vibration frequency of up to 21,600 vibrations per hour, achieving stunning precision.
A domed blue quartz dial on the upper part of the case displays the hours and minutes of local time. The dome at 3 o’clock that displays the second time zone was developed specifically for this timepiece and has been patented by the brand. The dome is printed with the names of cities representing 24 time zones, and it rotates once every 24 hours. The three-dimensional V-shaped hands allow collectors to choose the time zone displayed. In addition to the second time zone, this new indicator also offers a world time function that can read the time in 24 time zones simultaneously.
The dome of the second time zone rotates through a patented mechanism called a “radial guidance system”. There are three ruby rollers arranged around the circumference, which can be adjusted by micrometer screws. They ensure centering, and their rotation minimizes friction and increases the timekeeping performance and power reserve of the chronograph.
Positioned in perfect symmetry at 9 o’clock, the mother-of-pearl moon phase is revealed through the dragon’s coiled lower body, while its head and upper body rest on a flying tourbillon.
The five-day time of this highly complex combination’s astonishing autonomy is displayed via a linear indicator, visible through a window in the middle of the case between the two strap lugs at 12 o’clock.
Production of Bovet Recital 26 Chapter Two Dragon is very limited – one or two per month at most. But, as author George R.R. Martin wrote, “Not all men are cut out to dance with dragons.” Discount cheap watch
