The simple answer: the most complex and extreme watch made by the most extravagant watchmaker on the market. To pay tribute to Bugatti’s cars, Jacob & Co. created a unique work based on its Twin Turbo Furious concept. Of course, this is not the most down-to-earth watch ever, but please keep this in mind; technically speaking, Jacob & Co. La Montre Noire is comparable to Bugatti. In short, it has two three-axis tourbillon regulators, a single-button chronograph, a decimal minute repeater and…time. Not only a statement, but also an impressive watch concept.
The case of Jacob & Co. Twin Turbo Furious Bugatti “La Montre Noire” consists of 88 parts and is made of 18k black gold. With a size of 57 mm x 52 mm and a height of 17 mm, it will not be overlooked, especially its 344 rectangular-cut black sapphires highlight the lines of the case. The side of the case shows the complex crank handle used as the crown, in which the single button to start the chronograph is inserted. The watch is paired with a black Cordura strap, with a PVD titanium buckle and a black gold buckle with 18 rectangular-cut black sapphires. The display is the same as the original Twin Turbo Furious watch, but the dial and its elements have been completely black.
The visual luxury of Jacob & Co. watches continues “under the hood”. Inside “La Montre Noire” is an ultra-complex engine manufactured by the brand, consisting of no less than 832 parts. Twin Turbo Furious is adjusted by a pair of three-axis tourbillon adjusters. Rotating at three different speeds on three different axes (every 24, 48 and 180 seconds), the connection between the two tourbillon carriers is designed to stabilize the entire system, one to compensate for the other.
This watch is a model inspired by super sports cars and is also equipped with a chronograph, which is an all-in-one single-button chronograph with a column wheel and a horizontal clutch, to be precise. But there is more. The stopwatch mechanism incorporates the original “reference time” indicator. The opening at the 6 o’clock position on the dial indicates the minute and second reference time that can be set via the crown (position 2-up to 5 minutes and 59 seconds). Then, the pit plate wheel displays the difference in seconds compared to the reference time when timing the event.
As if this is not enough, Twin Turbo Furious Bugatti La Montre Noire is also equipped with an impressive decimal repeater. Compared with the traditional minute repeater, it tells the time to the minute in a more intuitive way: instead of telling the time, quarters and minutes, but telling the time, the ten-minute interval after an hour, and the minutes of the last ten-minute interval.
