Richard Mille RM 40-01 Automatic Tourbillon McLaren Speedtail
Since 2017, Richard Mille and British supercar manufacturer McLaren Automotive have become partners and today announced the result of their most ambitious collaborative project to date, the brand new RM 40-01 automatic tourbillon McLaren Speedtail.
The new timepiece pays homage to McLaren’s fastest and most advanced road bike. The Speedtail is a three-seater luxury wagon with lines based on the teardrop shape, which is the most aerodynamically efficient shape in nature.
The aerodynamic design of this super sports car provided inspiration for the development of the RM 40-01.
The two brands use similar methods when designing their products, focusing on reducing weight, reducing the impact of vibration, and minimizing drag.
The development of RM 40-01 required extraordinary effort. Imagine that Richard Mille’s casing department spent an unprecedented 2,800 hours perfecting the lines in 18 months. With extreme attention to detail, mirror polishing, plain and satin finishes are used in different areas, combined with the use of titanium and carbon TPT.
The 41.80 x 48.25 x 14.15 mm case is made of 69 individual parts, and the 12 o’clock position is much wider than the 6 o’clock position. A further taper can be seen between the titanium bezel and the case back, which are separated by a strap made of carbon TPT and a titanium column of unequal length. Thanks to 2 nitrile rubber O-ring seals, the three-sided housing ensures a waterproof depth of 50 meters/165 feet.
In order to protect the RM 40-01 movement, swiss Richard Mille developed a unique upper crystal glass with a “triple profile” to reduce the taper and thickness of the bezel.
The CRMT4 movement vibrates 28,800 times per hour and provides 50 hours of autonomous operation. For the first time, the power reserve display and the internal development of the complex functions of the large date and function selector are introduced. All of these are Richard Mille’s first creations on the internal tourbillon.
The button at 4 o’clock allows you to select neutral, winding and manual setting functions with a simple click similar to a car gearbox, while the aperture at 3 o’clock shows the selected function: N (Neutral) -W (winding)-H (manual setting).. http://www.chronowrist.ru
Finishing is not only suitable for visible parts, but also for hidden parts, such as the surface of the lower component. Although technically more complicated, the date corrector is located at the 8 o’clock position to achieve a more beautiful solution.
The platinum and red gold winding rotor is inspired by Speedtail’s hood and the barrel setting of the roof line. The orange line extending from the lower part of the movement to the strap mimics the vertical traffic lights installed on the rear screen of the Speedtail.
