In most cases, these complicated clock beauties are stored in a safe inside the barrel and retrieved under special circumstances. Heritage machine background
The first Legacy Machine appeared in 2011, which is completely different from the more standard SciFi-inspired chassis offered by the brand. The answer was realized in Legacy Machine 1. Legacy Machine 1 became the first watch in history to win two awards at the 2012 Geneva Haute Horlogerie Awards (Public Choice Award and Best Men’s Watch). However, the most complicated watch in the entire MB&F series is the Legacy Machine Perpetual, a model developed in 2015 by the Northern Irish watchmaking genius Stephen McDonnell. When McDonnell set out to redesign the MB&F perpetual calendar, he proposed a basis for system complications that redesigned the entire machine. LM Perpetual uses a “mechanical processor” composed of a series of superimposed discs. This revolutionary processor sets the default number of days in the month to 28 (because logically, all months have at least 28 days), and then adds additional days according to the needs of each month. This ensures that each month has the correct number of days, and eliminates the possibility of incorrect date skipping. The built-in safety function can disconnect the quick setting button during the date change, so even if the button is accidentally operated during the date change, the movement will not be damaged.
EVO has landed
The first obvious change is the material used for the housing. Unlike other traditional models, the case is made of gold, platinum and titanium. The case of the new LM Perpetual EVO is made of zirconium. Zirconium is a silver-gray metal with super luster and its performance exceeds that of steel and titanium. . The new EVO case design eliminates the bezel and integrates the dome sapphire crystal directly onto the case. Enlarging the openings on the dial allows a clearer view of the engine components and the hovering balance wheel, but this also means that the sapphire crystal must be reconfigured and then thermally bonded to the zirconium case. Another change is to replace the larger double spring rectangular actuator with a circular pusher. In addition to ease of adjustment, the pusher does not protrude too much from the case, so it is unlikely to be accidentally activated. However, perhaps the biggest step in the EVO’s new rugged and durable design is the use of a screw-in crown (this is MB&F’s first), which can protect the case’s new 80m water resistance. In order to eliminate the risk of excessive winding of the barrel, the degreasing of the winding stem pushes the crown in and tightens it to separate the crown from the winding mechanism.
